Hello Hospital Leadership!
I hope all is going well for you and your team. I come to you today with a request for current 2025 in-hospital pharmacy preferences so that we may initiate Project Bowling Alley 2.0 … 🎳🐕💊💉
Keep reading after the request for the background/”why” on the initiative, difference between PBA 1.0 and 2.0, next steps following form submission, and CareVet PBA guidance on filling out the form. Thank you for your help with this!
The Request: We ask all teams to please work with your Medical Director/Medical Leadership to fill out the following Project Bowling 2.0 jotform by March 31st detailing your hospitals’ preferences by major category – Project Bowling Alley 2.0 BAPS Setup Form.
Background on Project Bowling Alley and the “Why”: In December of 2021, CareVet launched a program we affectionately call Project Bowling Alley (PBA). It is a CareVet initiative to help hospitals “stay in their lanes” by encouraging fewer product choices in key categories like parasiticides and NSAIDs. This resulted in significant improvement in BAPS spending efficiency, staying on budget, and most importantly still having the products you need to treat your patients every day.
This effort is not to keep you from using any certain products or tell you what to buy. This project is meant to keep key product choices on the shelves in your hospital while moving the lowest turnover items to online pharmacy or “special order” status, encourage generic options, and increase hospital efficiency/profitability.
What is Project Bowling Alley 2.0? Since the launch of Project Bowling Alley, new product lines have come to market (i.e. Nexgard Plus, Credelio Cuattro, Nobivac NXT, and more) and vaccine supply chain has become much more dependable than years prior. To that end, we are wanting to revisit hospital preferences in the key parasiticide categories, primary NSAID, and introduce vaccines.
Next Steps Following Filling Out the Form:
-
The CareVet Procurement Team will then take your choices and set up your hospital’s BAPS ordering system accordingly. If you need additional items or have specific callouts, please email procurement@carevethealth.com with the specific names of the products. Otherwise, please try to stick to the form so it is captured in the system.
-
Any time a purchaser attempts to order a product that was not selected from the major categories, BAPS will prohibit the purchase by not allowing the purchaser to add the product to the shopping cart.
-
If at any time, preferences changes you can reach out to procurement@carevethealth.com to adjust preferences/setups (or simply resubmit the form).
-
We will work with you to move any sales of your non-preferred products to your online pharmacy or an “as-needed” order basis (or help you launch an online pharmacy if you don’t have one yet). Please note the on-line pharmacy does not need to be visible or available for your clients but could be simply set up so your team could use it to order products for your clients that you do not have on shelf – this is a great way to have access for small quantities of product without having to stock it on your shelves.
-
This aligns with the best practice of keeping preferred and best-selling products on your shelves, while products with lower sales volume are pushed online/special order.
CareVet PBA Guidance: Ultimately, the choice of the products you and your hospital carry is up to your Medical team. That said, CareVet does have preferences based on best medicine and margin that we would be remiss not to share. If you are interested in a different option or samples for a product that you aren’t carrying today or research behind the information shared below, please partner with your local manufacturer rep or reach out to the CareVet procurement team.

NSAID: With the advancement of medicine and bioequivalents, we prefer generics over name-brand when it comes to pharmaceuticals where available.
